IMPACTS
ImpactsECONOMIC IMPACTS
The provinces such as Sichuan were expected to lose $38 billion dollars.
Agriculture
Due to the loss of these supplies the price in China for grain is raised. The earthquake caused a 30%reduction in local crop production. The pork sector being affected caused local market prices to also be considerably affected. Tourism
In 2007 it was recorded that tourism brought 121.73 billion yen to the province. Sichuan province provides beautiful scenic points. But with many of these destroyed, such as the Yingchang Valley in Pengzhou, the tourism industry will suffer. |
environmental IMPACTS.

Social impacts
Jiuzhou Stadium Refugee Camp, Minyang County
- 70,000 people lost their lives, many of them poor and elderly 370,000 people injured.
- Many cities were burned or destroyed due to the great impact. This left many people to be homeless.
- People were living off with limited amount of food supplies as their homes were demolished.
- Minyang Football Stadium was a refugee camp to over 20,000 homeless earthquake survivors.
- Schools were carried on without a classroom. Minzhu Refugee Camp was a place where school student would go.
There was pressure needed for medical care for the injured as hospitals are also severely damaged.
Physiological care was needed
- After the earthquake many lost their family members. People had to take care of others as many saw their own family members getting hurt or witnessed something tragic. Many people had to flee their homes in a rush and were mentally frustrated. People needed physiological care to keep them balanced. As a result Médecins Sans Frontières psychologists provided psychological counselling to the victims of the quake in a hospital.
Effects to an medc
MEDCS are more ready than LEDC's at preparing for a disaster and may not effect it as much as an LEDC
For Example: floods, lava flow
In which why MEDC have a less impact against disasters as they may be more prepared and organized.
FOR EXAMPLE: Buildings in More Economically Developed Countries MEDCs are more likely to withstand an earthquake, because they may be designed to withstand tremors. e.g. Japan or deep foundations e.g. USA this will definitely has a less impact towards MEDc and more impact on LEDCs
IN comparison, in LEDCs the buildings are often of poor design as the country may not be able to afford better materials. This is one reason why earthquake damage in LEDCs is usually greater.
- MEDC are more developed and can assess the risk for different hazardous areas.
For Example: floods, lava flow
- Building in MEDCs are better quality than lEDC as they have strict codes to follow
In which why MEDC have a less impact against disasters as they may be more prepared and organized.
- In MEDCS technology is more advanced in which communication systems are easier to get hold of.
- An lEDC for example, Afghanistan, will not have advance buildings in order to recover quickly after the tectonic disaster such as an earthquake.
